Welcome to 2022! My Professional Goals For The Year Ahead

Happy New Year! It's that time again when many of us become a little more introspective, looking ahead on that big empty calendar. Like most people, I have a few thoughts for the year ahead, some plans, priorities and goals. As a writer, I find it really helpful to collect and crystallise my ideas using the written word so I decided to put my plans for 2022 into this week's blog post.

Professional Goals

It's only been a couple of months since I embarked on my freelancing journey, and I've had a reasonably good start. I've had the opportunity to work on some interesting guest blog posts for a few clients, as well as product descriptions, web content, and a surprising amount of copy editing.

So far, a lot of my work has been for CrowdContent, a content mill website (I talked about these in an earlier blog post), and, overall, I've had a good experience there, climbing through the rankings at a good pace. At the level I am now, I can make reasonable money and get in some invaluable experience (60,000 words or so so far!).

So my goals for 2022 are to carry on with the content mill work, building experience, a nice basic income, and building my own client list. I've discovered that I'm good at general writing and have the research skills to work in most areas. However, I do intend to obtain work in areas I am more knowledgeable about, such as engineering, genre TV and books, and blogging about climate change and the environment.

Climate Change

I often write about climate change and environmental issues, and I will continue to do so in the year ahead. Climate change is the biggest challenge facing humanity this century, and everyone has their part to play in fighting it. There are so many aspects to this battle, from looking at the food we eat to community action, energy use, and changes in our economic and political spheres. I will be writing about these things here in my own blog and guest posts on other websites.

Genre TV, Movies & Books

Even in times like these, everything doesn't have to be serious all of the time. When I'm not working, I often read books or watch TV and movies, usually in my favourite genres of science fiction and fantasy. So there will definitely be some blog posts in this area, and I'm also hoping to work on some guest posts for some of the geek culture websites.
